Numerous on-line discussions on definitions of words like "original', "authentic' and "real" as they apply to watches never appear to come to a consensus. It seems that, as with any word you care to mention, people will attach their own personal or idiosyncratic meanings to such words - meanings that work for them but perhaps do not work for everyone.
In this article, I argue that we should leave the definition of what is a Connie up to Aristotle!
Please enjoy!
What do you think of the plating on this movement # 320095659647 ?
ReplyDeleteDesmond,
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the guy who bought the 14k solid gold "Not a Connie" showing the 6th in its date window got wise and returned it because its for sale yet again with the same Franken parts and movement!
Superbwatches66 sold me a Franken Connie when I was early in my collecting the Omega in Switzerland refused to repair and sent back to me. Only after I bought it did I realize it was Franken with wrong hands n parts.
To his credit, he did take the watch back and give me a full refund. THEN, he promptly re-listed the same watch on e bay and sold it for more than I paid for it!
Oh well..........
Great Article! Love reading your blog, now if we could make all the crooks disappear...
ReplyDeleteNice to hear from you stephen. Yes, Ive seen a few relisted in that way.
ReplyDeleteA couple of which, the buyers came to me afterwards and I was able to assist.
Ive been watching superbwatches and I note they aint that superb at all in their offerings and misdleading descriptions.
Re comment 3.
ReplyDeleteI you have a magic wand.......
Sadly the crooks latch on to any premium or high-value vintage model these days, particularly in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. Very inventive, but not at all amusing.
Well that sounds nice
ReplyDeleteplease post a picture so we can all see your handy work on the number 320095xxxxx that you fixed up

Thank you.
Difficult to help without pics.
ReplyDeletePlease click on the about me and use the email function. If you send me some pictures of dial and case back, and pref the movement and inner case back, I can help you identify the watch.
Cheers
Desmond
Is this a real connie? It has original strap with omega symbol..? http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q700/Dablitzers/6D78B9DB-1D60-43A6-A993-271BA98594D2-7230-000003D336F76646_zpsaa16a834.jpg
ReplyDeleteLooks like a 14393 to me. Crystal is not original nor is the crown, but from the smallish pic everything else looks ok.
