One of the reasons why mechanical watchmaking is so alluring to collectors is because of its traditions.
Said to have been invented in Germany, watchmaking migrated to a number of major European centres including France, Britain and of course Switzerland. For the last century, the epicentre of the craft has been Switzerland, and that was as much by accident as it was by design.
